Common Issues
Your food isn't staying properly cold, or the temperature swings — fine one day, too warm the next. A layer of frost builds across the back of the freezer, meltwater gathers beneath the crisper drawers, and the fridge either won't stop running or kicks on and off in quick bursts. Some units also grow noticeably louder, rattle or buzz, quietly stop making ice, or leave a ring of condensation around the door seal.
Our first move is to read the actual temperatures and trace the airflow, then work outward from the parts that fail most — dusty condenser coils, a tired condenser fan, a leaking door gasket and a blocked defrost drain — before opening up the evaporator fan, defrost heater, thermostat, start relay or compressor. Nothing gets swapped on a hunch: we confirm the faulty part first, then fit a correct replacement, be it a new seal, fan motor, defrost element, relay or board, and we handle sealed refrigerant faults properly rather than papering over them. We don't call it done until the fridge is back to a stable, correct temperature.
Laundry day stalls: the washer refuses to spin, leaves a drum of water sitting after the cycle, or thumps and lurches hard enough to move across the floor. It may drip from the door or the base, or simply never fill. With the dryer, the drum spins but the clothes stay cool and damp, drying drags across two or three cycles, something squeaks or grinds inside, or a scorched, lint-heavy smell drifts out of the vent.
With washers we work through the drain pump and its filter, the inlet valves, pressure switch and door lock, then the shocks, bearings, motor and board if those come back clean. With dryers we open up the whole vent run, the element or igniter, thermal fuse, thermostats, belt, rollers and blower. We load-test whatever we find so the true fault surfaces instead of a lucky guess, clear any choked venting, and fit the right pump, valve, latch, element, fuse, belt or bearing. A full test cycle at the end proves it drains, spins, heats and runs quietly again.
There's a pool of water left in the base once the cycle ends, or it won't pump out at all. Glasses and plates come out streaked, chalky or grainy, the detergent never fully clears, and you might find moisture escaping low near the kickplate. Often there's a labouring pump noise, a cycle that drags on far longer than it used to, or an error code that stops it dead partway through.
We move through the filter, spray arms and their jets, drain hose and pump, then the inlet valve, door seal, float switch, element and board. Blockages get cleared, hard-water scale gets flushed out, and anything worn — a leaking seal, a stuck valve, a failing pump, a split spray arm, a dead board — is replaced with the correct part. After it goes back together we put it through a full hot wash and check that it fills, cleans, drains and dries with nothing leaking, so it performs the way it did when it was new.
A gas burner keeps clicking without catching, lights late, or burns lazy and yellow instead of a crisp blue. Electric elements stay cold or heat in patches, and induction zones drop out or won't sense a pan. The oven overshoots or undershoots the temperature you set, cooks unevenly, crawls through preheat, or bleeds heat around a door that no longer closes tight.
For gas we go over the igniter, spark module, burner ports, gas valve and safety valve; for electric and induction we check the elements, infinite switches, coils and sensors. On the oven side we compare the real cavity temperature to the setpoint, then examine the bake and broil elements or igniter, the sensor, control board and door gasket. Drift gets recalibrated, and igniters, elements, sensors, switches, valves and gaskets are replaced to code wherever they've failed. We only wrap up once each burner lights cleanly and the oven proves it will hold the temperature you dial in.
